What is Epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a chronic disorder which is markered by recurrent, unprovoked seizures. The normal pattern of neuronal activity becomes disturbed causing strange sensations, emotionas, and behavior, or sometimes convulsions, muscles spasms, and loss of consciousness. Epilepsy is a spectrum brain disorder ranging from severe and life threatening to much more benign. It is the fourth most common neurological disorder; about 326,000 American children under the age of 15 have epilepsy. This disorder is more common in young children and older adults.
