EEG Reading Prep for Toddler
Hi Charlie! My name's Jalesa and I'm a Child Life Specialist. Do you know why you're here today?
I don't know. Mommy said they have to look inside my head. Are you going to cut it open?
No, they're going to use these little stickers with these wires to stick on to your head. It's called an EEG. I actually have a friend with me, his name is Philip the Pig, and he is getting an EEG done today too. Do you think you can help Philip with his EEG?
Okay! I like piggies!
Me too! Okay so the first thing that Philip has to do is not move so that they can stick the stickers on his head. Do you think Philip wants to sit lay on his back on sit on your lap?
He wants to sit on my lap! I like sitting on my mommy's lap.
Okay great! You can sit on your mommy's lap when you get your EEG done Next, the technican is going to use this measuring tape to measure Philip's head and use a marker to mark where they are going to put the stickers. Don't worry the marker will come off.
Okay. Can I play with the marker?
You can't play with the technician's marker but I can definitely get you some! Next is the stickers. The technician will use this sticky glue to stick the stickers with wire to Phlip's head. Can you put the stick glue on Philip's head for me?
Yes! Wow this is sticky!
I know! So now the EEG starts. The technician is going to turn on the machine and then the wires are going to tell the machine what Philips brain is doing. Most kids tell me that they can't feel anything when machine is on. Does Philip feel anything?
No he doesn't feel anything.
Good! So the test will take about 30 minutes, which is like watching an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Do you think you'd want to watch something on the iPad while the test is going on?
Yeah! I love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It's my favorite!
Your mommy told me! After the episode is over the test should be done! Do you think you're ready for your EEG now?
Yes! Can Philip come with me?
Of course! Thanks for helping me with Philip! Good luck on you EEG Charlie!
