A doctor that specializes in treating children. This is usually the first person a parent will go to with concerns about their child's health.

Multidisciplinary Team

With any diagnosis, especially Epilepsy, there will be many different professionals that children come in contact with that are there to help make their prognosis as positive as possible. Below are common professionals that a child with epilepsy may meet.

 

Neurologist

A doctor that specializes in treating brain disorders. After talking to a pediatrian about their child's health, it will likely be recommended for the child to see a Neurologist.

Epileptologist

A neurologist whos specializes in epilepsy treatment. It is often recommended that a child see an epileptologist when the disorder is first diagnosed, but they may not see them again unless the treatment isn't working or sometimes during a physical change such as puberty.

EEG Technician

Technicians that perform electroencephalogram test. EEG technicians also explain the testing procedure to the patient obtain background information for the patient and caregivers.

Neuropsychologist

A psychologist who specializes in neurobiological causes of brain disorders, such as head injuries central nervous system infections and strokes. They evaluate cognitive or learning issues that could affect how a child is doing in school.

Clinical Psychologist

These psychologist can help children with mood and learning disorders that are common in children with epilepsy.
